Platinum Silk Cannabis Strain Description
We have had an exciting start to fall at Smokey Okie’s Cannabis, including new flavors and strains available. Our menu is new and fresh each week with standard favorites and seasonal or limited availability strains. Right now, you will find Platinum Silk on the menu.
Platinum Silk is a indica-dominant strain that comes from a cross between the Platinum and Silky Johnson strains. Platinum cannabis (also known as Platinum Kush OG) is given its name due to the platinum silver shade it takes on. The thick coat of crystal resin that coats it during the flowering stage provides this color, along with a variety of purple and orange hairs. Platinum is sweet, fruity and hashy. Platinum Silk’s other parent, Silky Johnson, is a very THC-heavy strain that has a sweet, flowery and earthy flavor and aromatic experience. Together, these two strains create Platinum Silk. It’s high in resin production and is a particularly potent strain with a THC level generally exceeding 25%.
One item to note about Platinum Silk is that it is a favorable choice for creating hash due to its high level of resins.
Platinum Silk Cannabis Flavor Profile
Recently, Smokey Okies teamed up with Cannabis Hangout to feature Platinum Silk on an episode of their Strain Alert, during which they describe Platinum Silk flavor and smell profiles, as well as the smoking experience. Check out the Platinum Silk Strain Alert in the following video:
Platinum Silk has a great nose. It tastes of vanilla and heavy cream, but with some spice.
If you read our series on selecting the best cannabis for you, you will have learned that terpenes are the major players when it comes to the taste, smell and aroma of a marijuana strain. When we focus on the core terpenes in Platinum Silk, we find Pinene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene.
In terms of flavor, we find these three main terpenes deliver the following flavor and aroma properties:
- Pinene
If you’ve ever smoked a weed that smells or tastes of pine, then it likely had one of these two terpenes in it. It also can bring undertones of rosemary and orange with it, which many find to be a pleasant combination. - Limonene
Limonene is the second-most abundant and is extremely common terpene to find in cannabis. Limonene has many positive qualities, but when it comes to flavor, you’ll find this terpene in conjunction with a tropical lemony twist that some may describe as sour. - Caryophyllene
As a good compliment to the earthy and fruity flavors that pinene and limonene carry, caryophyllene brings a spicy and peppery flavor. Many liken it to the spice you may find in nutmeg, allspice or cloves. When it comes to smell, if you’ve ever smelled freshly cracked pepper, you can imagine the aroma that caryophyllene carries.
Combined, these terpenes create a unique and smooth flavor profile. The aroma during a smoking session with Platinum Silk is fruity, but also floral due to the earthy and orange-smelling pinenes. The sweetness and fruitiness are an added flavor benefit that is sure to leave you satisfied.
Smoking Experience with Platinum Silk Cannabis
Terpenes, just as in flavor, also play an important role when it comes to the smoking experience itself, and how you feel during and after a smoking experience. Below is a breakdown of the major terpene players and their effects on the high.
- Pinene is known to be useful for pain. It is unique in that it plays with the THC well and helps to reduce memory loss that can be related to THC.
- Limonene is commonly referred to as one of the best options for stress and anxiety relief.
- Caryophyllene is the only terpene that actually binds to CB2 receptors, which makes it a great option for those seeking an anti-inflammatory or antioxidant outcome.
Many who smoke Platinum Silk refer to feeling calm and relaxed, but not overly sedated. It provides a head high that softens any anxiety or stress you may have. It gets stronger and settles over time, so it’s a good strain selection for someone looking to be active and not looking for a heavy sedation or a euphoric creative high. If you’re looking to be productive, but calm and at-ease, Platinum Silk is a good option for you.
